Illustrator Paul Combs

Sept11-never-forget

Paul Combs is an amazing talent. His illustrations, drawings and cartoons cover a wide variety of topics. I'm obviously taken to his extensive library of fire department creations. You can see an entire catalog of artwork that you can purchase at his website artstudioseven.com.

Combs is a regular editorial cartoon contributor to FireEngineering.com, and JEMS. He also blogs regularly. His blog posts are good reads and there are great pieces of art to accompany them. Well worth a subscription. Find his blog at http://www.artstudioseven.blogspot.com/

In addition to being a classically trained artist/illustrator, Combs is a fourteen year veteran firefighter/EMT at Bryan (Ohio) Fire Department. He serves the role of lieutenant.

I've included an example of Paul Combs' work in this post. Visit his site to see much more.

Brotherhood

From editorial cartoonist, Paul Combs, and his blog at FireEngineering.com:

Combswednesdaybrotherhood

Those fortunate enough to have attended at least one FDIC knows how special the opening ceremony is. Personally, it gives me the chance to meticulously put on my Class A, making sure that every button is placed correctly and polished to a perfect shine. Not because it may impress some prominent chief, or wow some of those who could not wear a formal uniform for whatever reason - it is simply my tribute to ALL who have come before me, and my way of saying "thank you" and "I will carry on the traditions you began".
Another personal tradition that I have during opening ceremony is reading each LODD name that scrolls past the screen as we honor those who have fallen. Somehow this makes it more personal for me, and I feel they've undoubtedly earned the right to be remembered.
